The Cardinals haven't won like they had expected this season. The offense hasn't been nearly as consistent as hoped.
But it's hard not to notice how the quarterback has dealt with each result -- win or loss -- with a positive slant. Noticeable after how Kyler Murray might have been once upon a time.
"I took losses super hard," Murray said Thursday. "Growing up there wasn't a lot of losing. Getting to the league and dealing with failure, I took it super hard. I think it was a detriment. You don't want to learn how to lose, but at the end of the day you kind of have to learn how to deal with those things and continue to play the game at a high level."
Murray has played well, when looking at advanced metrics. He remains a top 8 quarterback when it comes to ESPN's QBR rating and in EPA (expected points added). It has yet to translate to the win-loss column, with the Cardinals at 2-4.
"It's a long season," Murray said. "I've been on the end of starting off hot and finishing not where you want to. I also understand the mindset and mentality that we have to have each week and going forward. It's to learn from the last one, focus on the next one."
Facing a Chargers team with a stingy defense (13 points a game) on Monday isn't an automatic panacea for getting the offense going, but the Cardinals should have Zay Jones back at wide receiver and will be playing at home trying to wipe away the taste of a blowout loss in Green Bay.
"The last game was pretty bad," Murray said. "But again, it happens in this league. I think we had a great week last week but Sunday we didn't put it together. I also think we have to remain positive. We know what we have in here. It's not like we've hit rock bottom. I don't think anyone has given up on what we can accomplish."
