Apparently Budda Baker isn't the only Cardinal who has decided the single-digit life is for him.
With rookie minicamp later this week and potential on-field work coming for veterans too, the Cardinals have released new numbers for rookies and for veterans. It comes with a caveat -- all the new numbers announced Monday are technically tentative, and don't become officially official until the start of the regular season (That gives leeway to players who want to nab a number after final cuts should one they prefer become available.)
All that said, here are the ones that caught the eye, after Baker first broke his own news he is changing to No. 3:
- Running back Chase Edmonds plans to wear No. 2 (he had been 29)
- Cornerback Byron Murphy Jr. plans to wear No. 7 (he had been 33)
- Free agent running back James Conner picked No. 6 (so yes, the Cards' top two running backs are single-digiters)
- Wide receiver A.J. Green is getting No. 18
- Cornerback Malcolm Butler is getting No. 21
- Kicker Matt Prater is No. 5
- Center Rodney Hudson is No. 61
Meanwhile, the draftee numbers -- and again, these are subject to change -- are:
- Linebacker Zaven Collins No. 25
- Wide receiver Rondale Moore No. 85
- Cornerback Marco Wilson No. 20
- Linebacker Victor Dimukeje No. 92
- Cornerback Tay Gowan No. 32
- Safety James Wiggins No. 38
- Offensive lineman Michal Menet No. 72
