Drew Petzing speaks every Tuesday, asked to analyze every part of the Cardinals' offense of which he is in charge.
This week, after the Cardinals struggled in Green Bay, the offensive coordinator was asked to analyze his own work after six games.
"I think it's been a little inconsistent," Petzing said. "That's the key. I'm always going to say my playcalling is how we roll as an offense. So when we are rolling I take a lot of pride in that. I also have to give a lot of credit to the players and their execution.
"When we're not, I have to look at myself and say, 'What can we do better?' As you look throughout our first six games, I think we have to clean up the inconsistency, and that starts with me as a playcaller."
The Cardinals scored touchdowns on the first drive of their first five games this season. And Petzing was getting both local and national love from the Cards' offensive work at the end of last season through the first two weeks of this season. In the last four games, however, the Cardinals have had a more difficult time generating offense and points.
Overall, the Cardinals are 10th in the NFL in yards per play, 15th in yards per game, seventh in rushing yards per game, 15th in third-down conversions, 13th in red-zone efficiency, and 17th in scoring.
Petzing, like the entire Cardinals coaching staff, prefers not to get too detailed on subjects, keeping trade secrets secret.
"I'd like every play to work," Petzing said. "That's certainly one of my goals. But at the end of the day, I think there are areas where, 'Hey I could be a little bit better here or a little more consistent there.'"
