With the Cardinals playing their first preseason game on Saturday, their first press release of the season is also out. As usual, that means the first depth chart. As always, it comes with the usual caveats, that it is all fluid, and it might not always match what is seen on the field. But it's a start on what the roster could potentially look like.
There are no surprises after what has been seen at camp (when everyone is healthy).
-- Evan Brown is RG1 when Hjalte Froholdt is C1
-- Starling Thomas V is currently the third starting CB with Mex Melton with the second unit.
-- The Cardinals list three receivers with the first unit: Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch
-- Dennis Gardeck is first unit at outside linebacker with BJ Ojulari out
There are some second-unit-and-beyond spots to note. Trey Benson is listed as RB2, and right now Michael Carter is listed behind Benson, Emari Demercado and DeeJay Dallas, and the latter shows how important special teams impact can be on a roster spot.
Jon Gaines II is listed as the backup center, and Isaiah Adams is listed as the backup left guard. Desmond RIdder is listed as QB2 over Clayton Tune, although Tune has gotten most of the second-unit reps of late.
Dortch and Dallas (they are listed as or) are each potential first-team kickoff and punt returners.
