The Cardinals are getting a veteran wide receiver back.
The five-game suspension of Zay Jones ended on Monday. The Cardinals asked for and were granted a roster exemption for Jones that lasts for a week; by Oct. 14 the Cardinals must put him back on the 53-man roster or release him. They could bring him back to the roster at any point before then and he could in theory play Sunday in Green Bay.
Coach Jonathan Gannon said Jones will practice this week.
"I am excited about Zay adding in here," Gannon said. "We'll find the right ways to deploy him and he's a playmaker for us, can play all three positions, and he can make plays."
Jones has been able to be at the Dignity Health Training Center and speak to coaches, but he has not been allowed to attend meetings or practice since the suspension began the Monday of Week 1.
In training camp, Jones had been working as the No. 4 receiver behind Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch.
Jones had 34 receptions for 321 yards and two touchdowns last season in Jacksonville, appearing in nine games. In 2022, Jones played in 16 games for the Jaguars, notching career-highs in catches (82) and yards (823).
The nephew of one-time Cardinals quarterback Jeff Blake was a second-round pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2017.
