Chandler Jones Will Not Play Against Texans

Linebacker remains on Covid list; Cardinals elevate four from practice squad

Linebacker Chandler Jones remains on the Covid list.

Chandler Jones was back in the building working out Friday with the Cardinals, but he wasn't practicing and he won't play Sunday against the Texans.

The linebacker remained on the Reserve/COVID-19 list as the Cards made their final transactions of the week on Saturday. They moved up four practice squad players: defensive lineman Josh Mauro, who signed this week, is a standard elevation, while linebacker Joe Walker, offensive lineman Danny Isidora and tight end Ross Travis were all Covid replacements.

The players being replaced were defensive linemen Corey Peters and Zach Allen as well as Jones.

Defensive coordinator Vance Joseph had acknowledged Friday that Jones was able to return to the weight room, but said the Cardinals were going to be cautious of how quickly they activated Jones given his bout with Covid. Jones has not practiced since playing against the 49ers two weeks ago.

The Cardinals have a short week, with a Thursday night game at home against the Packers following the game against the Texans.

The Cards have not had a player test positive since Peters did so the morning of the Browns game on Sunday, a good sign the team has moved past the small outbreak. Coach Kliff Kingsbury remains out. So to does Peters and fellow defensive lineman Zach Allen, who like Kingsbury, went on the list Friday.

The 10th day for Kingsbury and Allen is Sunday -- the day the Cards play the Texans. For Peters, it is Tuesday.
