Jonathan Ward hasn't played in a game since Oct. 28, when he suffered a concussion while covering a punt against the Packers.
The running back was hoping the bye would provide enough time for him to fully heal, but now he's going to miss more time because of Covid.
The Cardinals put Ward on the Reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday, according to the NFL's transaction report. Ward is vaccinated, meaning he can come back after two negative tests on consecutive days. The Cardinals play in Chicago on Sunday. He had yet to return to practice from the concussion prior to the bye.
Ward is the first Cardinals player to land on the Covid list since wide receiver A.J. Green and tight end Demetrius Harris were put on it on Nov. 3.
Behind starter James Conner at running back, the Cardinals have Eno Benjamin. Tavien Feaster is on the practice squad. Chase Edmonds remains on injured reserve with an ankle injury, and must sit out at least one more game before being eligible to return.
The Cardinals begin their week of practice Wednesday morning.
