The Cardinals and the Cowboys will play in the 2017 Hall of Fame game.
Kurt Warner is going to Canton this summer, and so are the Cardinals.
With their former quarterback getting inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Aug. 5, the Cards will make an appearance themselves two days before, playing the Dallas Cowboys in the annual Hall of Fame game that will start the 2017 NFL season in Canton, Ohio.
The game will be Aug. 3 at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium. Kickoff will be at 5 p.m. Arizona time.
Both Warner, who played for the Cardinals from 2005-2009, and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones are part of the 2017 Hall of
Fame class. The Cardinals will also host the Cowboys at University of Phoenix Stadium at some point in the regular season.
The Cards last played in the Hall of Fame game in 2012, falling to the Saints, 17-10, at the outset of coach Ken Whisenhunt's final season. Prior to that, the franchise hadn't played in a Hall of Fame game since 1986. It will be the Cards' fifth overall Hall of Fame game.
For the first time, the game has been moved before the Enshrinement ceremony. In the past, the induction came on Saturday with the game Sunday. Field issues, trying to ready the stadium for a game in less than a day after the induction ceremony, led to the cancellation of the game last season.
The Cardinals were already facing the need to be out of University of Phoenix Stadium for a few days during training camp because of a Metallica concert Aug. 4. The fifth preseason game means the Cardinals will begin training camp earlier than normal.
In 2012, when the Hall of Fame game was held Aug. 5, report day for training camp was July 24. This year's training camp dates will be announced later this summer.
