If anyone was unclear, the Monti/JG tandem aren't big on talking about injuries. Ossenfort was asked about right tackle Jonah Williams on Tuesday, for instance, and there were few -- OK no -- details about his knee injury, although Ossenfort did sound optimistic about the veteran's return and noted he thought Williams' season was undervalued when he played.
But I digress.
This is about 2025 first-round pick Darius Robinson, who appeared in six games with a sack and a tackle for loss. It wasn't the debut season Robinson or anyone watching Robinson expected after a good training camp. But the calf injury that kept him out of 11 games was a problem the whole season.
The Cardinals wanted him to be disruptive, coach Jonathan Gannon said Tuesday at the Scouting combine, but "he was never healthy."
"He didn't get to play a lot this year," Gannon added. "You might say he's going on Year 2. Not in my mind. He hasn't played enough snaps."
When Robinson finally played, he was never listed as any better than "limited" on the practice report, indicating it was a lingering issue.
The Cardinals figure to add to the defensive line in the draft and perhaps free agency, but they have veterans Bilal Nichols and Justin Jones coming back from injury, and they will have a full season of Robinson.
"That's the game of football," Gannon added. "Everyone's availability is going to be a little different. But I like where D-Rob is at right now, I like where he is trending. There is no doubt he is going to be an impact player for us."
