NFL Suspends Zay Jones For Five Games

Wide receiver eligible to return against the Packers in Week 6

Wide receiver Zay Jones has been suspended for the first five games of the 2024 season.
Wide receiver Zay Jones has been suspended for the first five games of the 2024 season.

The Cardinals will be without wide receiver Zay Jones for the first five games of the regular season after the NFL on Friday announced that he would be suspended for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Jones had a misdemeanor domestic battery charge in Florida dropped in March, while Jones was still with the Jaguars. The NFL decided to levy its suspension after conducting its own investigation.

The Cardinals have built some depth in the receiver room and Jones was still battling to make sure he had a roster spot. Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson and Greg Dortch will be the top three wideouts. Jones was working to be No. 4, with the team looking at veterans Chris Moore and Zach Pascal as well as undrafted rookie Xavier Weaver.

Jones will not count against the 53-man roster while suspended. He is eligible to return Oct. 7, before the Cardinals play in Green Bay.

Last season, Jones played in only nine games for the Jaguars, making 34 receptions for 321 yards and two touchdowns. But in 2022 the eight-year veteran had his best season, with 82 catches for 823 yards, along with five touchdowns.
