Cardinals Elevate Jackson Barton As Tackle Help

Practice-squad tackle needed after Williams injury

The Cardinals have elevated tackle Jackson Barton (66) for Sunday's game.
The Cardinals have elevated tackle Jackson Barton (66) for Sunday's game.

Injuries have eaten into the Cardinals' tackle depth already this season, so their first practice-squad elevation of the season addressed the issue.

With Jonah Williams and rookie Christian Jones on Injured Reserve, the team moved up Jackson Barton as the backup swing tackle for Sunday's game against the Rams.

Barton has nine career NFL appearances, including one last year for the Cardinals when he spent the season on the practice squad.

Veteran Kelvin Beachum will start at right tackle for Williams, who hurt his knee on the final play of the first quarter against the Bills. Williams must miss a minimum of four games.

"The mentality you have to take as a football team and as an offensive line, and it sounds like coach-speak, but next man is up," offensive line coach Klayton Adams said. "The reason that the guys that are here are here, they are all going to have to play at some point. You have to put guys in position where they can develop.

"What you are trying to do with Beach is you are trying to maintain, and you lean on his experience."

COLLINS NOT FINED

Outside linebacker Zaven Collins, who was flagged for unnecessary roughness on Bills quarterback Josh Allen to lose a sack in last week's game, was not fined for the play.
