Counting Snaps - Week 9 Vs. Bears

Trey Benson sees a spike in work and production

Trey Benson did have a game earlier this season (Rams, Week 2) in which he played more snaps than the 16 he participated in Sunday against the Bears. But the Rams game was about getting work with the game long decided with a lot of his 22 snaps. The Bears game, the rookie running back got into the offense early and much more often than of late. His 16 snaps were double what he had played the previous two games combined.

And Benson produced, with his first NFL touchdown and 37 rushing yards on eight carries, along with an 18-yard reception on a day when the entire running back room shined.

James Conner played less than 50 percent of the snaps -- 28 of 58 -- which was a nod to both his teammates excelling and his efficiency. Conner had 107 yards on 18 carries and another three receptions, meaning he had a touch on 75 percent of the plays he was in the game. Emari Demercado was in for 14 snaps, including the Hail Emari rush TD at the end of the first half, while DeeJay Dallas got a rare offensive snap (and carry.)

The right guard rotation of Trystan Colon (41) and Isaiah Adams (17) continued. At tight end, Trey McBride (52) played all but six snaps, followed by Tip Reiman (29) and Elijah Higgins (25).

At wide receiver, Marvin Harrison Jr. was still the leader but his percentage dropped for the week (43 snaps, 74 percent), and was followed by Michael Wilson (41), Greg Dortch (22), Zay Jones (11) and Zach Pascal (3).

Thanks to the big lead, no one on defense played all 74 snaps. Cornerback Max Melton, who has been settling into a starting role with Sean Murphy-Bunting sidelined, led the way with 72. Inside linebacker Kyzir White, cornerback Starling Thomas V and safeties Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson were all at 68, while cornerback Garrett Williams had 62.

That allowed reserve secondary folk like Rabbit Taylor-Demerson (10), Kei'Trel Clark (8, and who actually got the start), Darren Hall (7) and special teams ace Joey Blount (6) some defensive work.

Linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. was in for 51, with Owen Pappoe (37) and Krys Barnes (8) also working. At outside linebacker, Zaven Collins' two-sack game came with 40 snaps, followed by Xavier Thomas (25), Jess Luketa (24), Julian Okwara (19), and Victor Dimukeje (17).

On the defensive line, practice-squad call-up Ben Stille actually led the way (46), followed by Dante Stills (40), L.J. Collier (34), Roy Lopez (19), and Khyiris Tonga (16).
